What is Vesicare?

Vesicare (solifenacin) is used to treat incontinence, frequent or urgent urination and other symptoms of overactive bladder. Solifenacin belongs to a class of drugs called antispasmodics and works by relaxing the muscles in your bladder.

Also be aware that:

• You should not breast feed while using Vesicare.
• Vesicare is not approved to be used by anyone younger than 18.
• This medication may blur your vision. Do not drive, operate machinery or do anything else requiring clear vision until it can be done safely.
• You should avoid exposure to extreme heat as solifenacin may make it more difficult for your body to cool down when it gets very hot.

Common Vesicare side effects may include but are not limited to:

• Dry mouth. To relieve this you can drink water, suck sugarless hard candy or ice chips, chew sugarless gum or use a saliva substitute.
• Constipation. To prevent this you should drink plenty of water, exercise and eat dietery fiber. You may also need to take a laxative.
• Unusual tiredness, weakness or drowsiness.
• Upset stomach.
• Dry eyes or blurred vision.
• Headaches.

Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects of solifenacin:

• Severe abdominal or stomach pain.
• Constipation which lasts for 3 or more days.
• Difficulty urinating.
• Eye swelling, redness or pain or vision changes such as seeing rainbows around lights at night.
• Mental or mood changes including hallucinations or confusion.
• Signs of kidney infection such as fever frequent, painful or burning urination or urine which is pink or bloody.
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or a swelling of your face, lips or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Vesicare?

If you miss a dose of this medication, take it if you remember it on the same day. If not skip the dose and take your next dose at the regular time the next day. Do not take two doses on the same day.
