What is Transderm Scop?

Transderm Scop are patches containing scopolamine which are prescribed to treat symptoms of motion sickness such as nausea and vomiting. Scopolamine may also be prescribed to help recover from anesthesia which was given during surgery. Transderm Scop patches block certain signals to your brain which cause nausea and vomiting and correct the imbalance of natural substances.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication. Follow your doctor’s directions.

  • Transderm Scop patches should be applied to a clean, hairless and dry area of skin behind your ear.
  • Press the patch down firmly for at least 30 seconds, making sure that it is well stuck. Do not apply a Transderm Scop patch if it is broken, cut or damaged.
  • The patch will slowly release the medication into your body over three days.
  • When using the patch to prevent nausea or vomiting after surgery, the patch is typically applied the evening before surgery and then removed 24 hours after surgery. If it is used for a cesarean section, the patch is typically applied one hour before your procedure.
  • Only use one patch at a time. If your patch needs to be replaced, discard the old patch and place the new patch behind your other ear.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling Transderm Scop patches. Wash behind the ear once your patch is removed.
  • You may experience dizziness, loss of balance, headache, muscle weakness, slow heartbeat, nausea or vomiting after stopping this medication. These effects usually occur 24 hours or more after stopping this medication. Tell your doctor straight away about any reactions.
