Namenda Solution, called NMDA receptor antagonist, works by decreasing abnormal activity in the brain and treating the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. It may improve the ability to think and remember or slow the loss of these abilities in people with AD. However, the Namenda solution will not cure AD.

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Take Namenda Solution by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. When you first start taking this medication, you will usually take it once daily. To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Once your dose increases to more than 5 milligrams per day, take this medication twice daily or as directed by your doctor. 

If you are taking Namenda oral liquid, read the manufacturer's instruction sheet with the bottle. Follow the directions exactly. Use the oral syringe with the product to measure your dose. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. Swallow the medication directly from the syringe. Please do not mix it with water or other liquids. Rinse the syringe with water after each use. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Before taking the Namenda solution, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to it or any other medications,
• You are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products.
• If you have or have a urinary tract infection now or if you develop one during your treatment with memantine, and if you have or have ever had seizures, difficulty urinating, or kidney or liver disease.
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking memantine, call your doctor.
• If you have dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking the Namenda solution.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Namenda solution: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have the following:

• severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears;
• seizure (convulsions); or
• unusual changes in mood or behavior,

Common Namenda solution side effects may include:

• diarrhea;
• dizziness; or
• headache.

Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

What happens if you miss a dose of the Namenda solution?

Take the missed dose of the Namenda solution as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Seek emergency medical attention.

Is driving safe while on Namenda solution?

Namenda can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
