Loniten is a vasodilator that relaxes (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow. Loniten is used to treat severely high blood pressure (hypertension) that is causing symptoms or damaging your vital organs. 

While on Loniten, follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use Loniten in larger or smaller amounts or longer than recommended. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to ensure you get the best results.

Your doctor may want to give your first dose of this medicine in a hospital or clinic setting to treat any serious side effects that occur quickly.

Do not change your doses or medication schedule without your doctor's advice. Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

Before taking Loniten, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies and your medical history, especially of:

• Pheochromocytoma.
• Heart problems (such as heart failure, chest pain, and recent heart attack).
• Kidney disease.
• A certain lung disease (pulmonary hypertension).

Limit alcoholic beverages. Loniten may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. 

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Common side effects may include:

• changes in color, length, or thickness of body or facial hair;
• nausea, vomiting;
• rash; or
• breast pain or tenderness.

What is Loniten?

What should I avoid while taking Loniten?

While taking Loniten, you may need to limit or reduce the salt in your diet. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes unless your doctor has told you to.

Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.

What are Loniten side effects?

Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur as your body adjusts to the Loniten. Tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly if either of these effects lasts or gets worse.
