What is Isopto Carpine Eye Drops?

Isopto Carpine Eye Drops are used to treat glaucoma and other eye conditions. Isopto Carpine Eye drops treat presbyopia.

Isopto Carpine Eye Drops Follow the directions on your prescription. Use Isopto Carpine Eye Drops as directed. Please only use more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes it.

To instill the Isopto Carpine Eye Drops, follow these steps:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Check the dropper tip to ensure it is not chipped or cracked.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip against your eye or anything else; eye drops and droppers must be kept clean.
  • While tilting your head back, pull down the lower lid of your eye with your index finger to form a pocket.
  • Hold the dropper (tip down) with the other hand as close to the eye as possible without touching it.
  • Brace the remaining fingers of that hand against your face.
  • While looking up, gently squeeze the dropper so that a single drop falls into the pocket made by the lower eyelid. Remove your index finger from the lower eyelid.
  • Close your eye for 2 to 3 minutes and tip your head down as though looking at the floor. Try not to blink or squeeze your eyelids.
  • Place a finger on the tear duct and apply gentle pressure for 2 minutes.
  • Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a tissue.
  • If you are to use more than one drop in the same eye, wait at least 5 minutes before instilling the next drop.
  • Replace and tighten the cap on the dropper bottle. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip.
  • Wash your hands to remove any medication.

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or other medicines. Also, tell your healthcare professional if you have allergies to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated pediatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of Isopto Carpine in children.

Breastfeeding

There are no adequate studies on women to determine infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding.

Isopto Carpine eye drops may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur, they may need medical attention. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  • Increased sweating
  • muscle tremors
  • nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • redness of the white part of the eyes or inside of the eyelids
  • trouble breathing
  • watering of mouth

Less common

  • Blurred vision
  • eye irritation or pain
  • watering of the eyes.
