Iopidine Eye Drops are used along with other medications to treat serious high pressure inside the eye (glaucoma) for a short time (such as one month) to help delay or prevent the need for eye surgery. Iopidine Eye Drops work by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye. Decreasing high pressure inside the eye may help to prevent decreased vision or blindness.

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use Iopidine Eye Drops in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Iopidine Eye Drops are usually given as 1 to 2 drops in each affected eye three times per day. To apply Iopidine Eye Drops:

• Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
• Tilt your head slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop.
• Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down without blinking or squinting.
• Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about 1 minute to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct.
• Please do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye.
• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

Before using Iopidine Eye Drops, tell your doctor or pharmacist:  

• Your medical history, especially of: blood vessel disease, high blood pressure, heart problems, kidney disease, and mental/mood disorders.
• If you are allergic to them, or clonidine, or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. 

Iopidine Eye Drops may cause common side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• red, swollen, itchy, or teary eyes
• eye discomfort
• feeling that something is in the eye
• irregular, slow, or pounding heartbeat
• blurred vision
• pale eyes
• dry eyes
• widened pupils (dark circles in the center of the eyes)
• raised eyelids
• lack of usual coordination
• lack of energy
• sleepiness
• difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
• unusual dreams.

What happens if you miss a dose of Iopidine Eye Drops?

Use the missed dose of Iopidine Eye Drops as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if you overdose on Iopidine Eye Drops?

An overdose of Iopidine Eye Drops is not expected to be dangerous. 

What should I avoid while using Iopidine Eye Drops?

Iopidine Eye Drops may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

What are the possible side effects of Iopidine Eye Drops?

Allergic reactions (redness, itching, tearing of the eye) may occur.
