Betagan Eye Drops are beta-blockers used to treat open-angle glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye.

Use Betagan Eye Drops as directed by your doctor. Betagan Eye Drops are usually instilled once or twice a day. Betagan Eye Drops control glaucoma but does not cure it. Continue to use Betagan Eye Drops even if you feel well. Keep using Betagan Eye Drops even after talking to your doctor.

To instill the Betagan Eye Drops, follow these steps:

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
• Tilting your head back, pull down the lower lid of your eye to form a pocket.
• Hold the dropper close to the eye as possible without touching it.
• Gently squeeze the dropper so that a single drop falls into the pocket made by the lower eyelid.
• Close your eye for 2 to 3 minutes and tip your head down as though looking at the floor. Try not to blink or squeeze your eyelids.
• Place a finger on the tear duct and apply gentle pressure.
• Replace and tighten the cap on the dropper bottle. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip.

Before taking Betagan Eye Drops, 

You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to Betagan Eye Drops or if you have:

• Asthma, or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
• Slow heartbeats; or
• A heart condition called "AV block."
• Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
• Breathing problems such as bronchitis or emphysema;
• Heart problems;
• Peripheral vascular disease such as Raynaud's syndrome;
• Diabetes;
• A thyroid disorder, or
•  Myasthenia gravis.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Betagan Eye Drops may cause common side effects, including:

• eye stinging or burning
• discomfort, redness, or itching of the eye
• swelling of the eyelids
• decreased vision

Some side effects may be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop using the Betagan Eye Drops and call your doctor immediately:

• difficulty breathing
• wheezing
• slow or irregular heartbeat
• faintness
• swelling of the feet and legs
• sudden weight gain.

Can you wear contacts while on Betagan Eye Drops?

Do not wear soft contact lenses because there is a preservative in Betagan Eye Drops that can affect soft contact lenses.

How to store Betagan Eye Drops?

• Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
• Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light.

Can Betagan Eye Drops cause side effects?

Eye irritation, inflammation, pain or discomfort may occur.
