What is Azopt?

Azopt Eyedrops (brinzolamide) are used to treat high pressure inside the eye caused by glaucoma, ocular hypertension or other eye diseases. Azopt belongs to a class of drugs called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and works to lower high pressure inside the eye by decreasing the amount of fluid within your eye.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication. Follow your doctor’s directions.

• Wash your hands and shake the eye drops well before using. Remove contact lenses if you wear them and do not place them back in for 15 minutes after using.
• Slightly tip your head backwards. Use your finger to pull down your lower eyelid creating a pocket. Hold your dropper directly above your eye and squeeze out a drop into the pocket.
• Keep your eyes closed for between one and two minutes. Gently place your finger in the corner of your eye near your nose to stop any liquid from draining out.
• If you use any other eye drops, wait at least ten minutes before applying them.
• Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper to avoid contamination.

• If you have any drug or other allergies.
• Which other prescription and non-prescription medications you currently take.
• Your medical history especially of glaucoma, eye problems or kidney disease.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.

• You should not breast feed while using this medication.
• Azopt may cause blurred vision. Avoid driving or any other activity requiring clear vision until you can do it safely.

Common Azopt side effects may include but are not limited to:

• Blurred vision.
• An unusual or bitter taste in your mouth.

Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects of brinzolamide

• Eye pain, swelling or redness.
• The feeling of something in your eye.
• Sensitivity to light.
• Pain in the upper right side of the stomach.
• Jaundice.
• Signs of an eye infection such as swelling, redness, severe discomfort, drainage or crusting.
• Signs of a severe skin reaction such as burning eyes, fever, sore throat, skin pain or red or purple skin rash with peeling and blistering.
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or a swelling of your face, lips or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Azopt?

If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
