What is an Atrovent Inhaler?

Atrovent is an inhaler used in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) to prevent the airways in your lungs from narrowing. Atrovent contains ipratropium which relaxes the airway muscles increasing air flow to your lungs. Atrovent inhaler should be used regularly to be most effective in relieving symptoms such as shortness of breath or wheezing. Ipratropium does not work as fast as your quick-relief inhaler although may sometimes be used to relieve sudden shortness of breath if prescribed by your doctor.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication. Follow your doctor’s directions.

  • Prime your inhaler with two test sprays before your first use or if your inhaler has not be used in over 3 days. This medication does not need shaking before use.
  • Inhale this medication through your mouth,.
  • If your prescribed dose is two inhalations, or if you use multiple inhalers wait at least one minute between inhalations.
  • Rinse your mouth with water and without swallowing after each use to prevent dry mouth or throat irritation.
  • Do not use more than 12 Atrovent inhalations within a 24 hour period.

We have had very good service from the Canada Pharmacy Depot, obtaining a very expensive medication (in the USA) for the very same medication from India for a fraction of the US cost ($488/3mo supply vs $1400/1mo supply). This has been a godsend bc my husband has Parkinson's Disease and takes many medications to manage his condition. It does take longer to get the medication, but you just have to plan ahead for significant savings.
