Vectical topical ointment treats mild to moderate plaque psoriasis, a skin disease with red patches and white scales that do not go away. Vectical is a form of vitamin D. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Vectical comes as an ointment to apply to the skin. It is usually applied two times a day, in the morning and evening. Apply Vectical ointment at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Apply Vectical ointment exactly as directed.

Apply Vectical ointment to the areas of skin affected by plaque psoriasis. Do not apply calcitriol ointment to healthy skin or anywhere on your face, eyes, lips, or vagina. Do not swallow the medication.

Apply the ointment to the affected skin and gently rub the ointment into the skin until no medication is visible. Do not cover the skin where you applied Vectical ointment with a bandage or dressing unless your doctor tells you you should. Wash your hands well with soap and water after you apply Vectical ointment.

Before Using Vectical ointment, please consider the following:

• Allergies
  Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or other medicines. 
• Pediatric
  The usefulness of Vectical ointment in children two years of age and older; however, safety and efficacy have not been established in children younger than two.
• Geriatric
  Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of Vectical ointment in the elderly.
• Drug Interactions
  Your doctor may decide not to treat you with this medication or change some of your other medicines.
• Other Interactions
  Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.
• Other Medical Problems
  The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
• Hypercalcemia (high calcium in the blood)—Use with caution. 

Using Vectical can affect your body's ability to metabolize calcium. Tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms of high levels of calcium in your blood (hypercalcemia), including:

• Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation;
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Lack of energy, feeling tired;
• Muscle weakness;
• Confusion; or
• Bone pain.

Common Vectical ointment side effects may include:

• Calcium in your urine;
• Itching; or
• Abnormal lab tests.

What happens if you miss a dose of Vectical ointment?

Use the Vectical ointment as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not use two doses at one time.

What happens if you overdose on Vectical ointment?

Seek emergency medical attention.

What should you avoid while using Vectical ointment?

Vectical ointment could make your skin more sensitive to the harmful effects of the sun. Avoid sunlight or tanning beds. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when you are outdoors.

Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes or mouth or your vagina.

Pain, burning, itching, redness, or peeling at the application site may occur.
