What is Diprosone Ointment?

Diprosone ointment treats the itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort of various skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. Diprosone is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.

Use Diprosone ointment on the skin only. However, please do not use it on the face, groin, or underarms or for diaper rash unless directed to do so by your doctor. Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this medication and each time you get a refill.

Before applying the medication, clean and dry the affected area. Wash and dry your hands. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub it in, usually 1-2 times daily or as directed by your doctor.

Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

After applying the medication:

  • Wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands.
  • When applying this medication near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes as this may worsen or cause glaucoma.
  • Avoid getting this medication in the nose or mouth. If you get the medication in these areas, rinse with plenty of water.

Before Taking Diprosone Ointment

Before taking Diprosone ointment, tell your doctor if you have

  • If you are allergic to it,
  • Skin irritation after using steroid medicine;

  • Any skin infection.
  • If you are pregnant,
  • It may not be safe to breastfeed a baby while you are using this medicine.

Do not use Diprosone on a child without a doctor's advice. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.

Diprolene is not approved for use by anyone younger than 13 years old.

We have had very good service from the Canada Pharmacy Depot, obtaining a very expensive medication (in the USA) for the very same medication from India for a fraction of the US cost ($488/3mo supply vs $1400/1mo supply). This has been a godsend bc my husband has Parkinson's Disease and takes many medications to manage his condition. It does take longer to get the medication, but you just have to plan ahead for significant savings.
