Desowen Lotion treats various skin conditions. Desonide reduces the swelling, itching and redness in these conditions. 

Use Desowen Lotion only as directed by your doctor. This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not get it into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. 

To use the Desowen lotion:

• Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
• Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the affected skin area. Rub it in gently.
• The lotion protects the skin from water, clothing, or anything that causes rubbing until the medicine has dried. Also, shake the lotion well before using it.
• Do not bandage or otherwise wrap the skin being treated unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Before using Desowen Lotion, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, other corticosteroids, or any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: poor blood circulation, diabetes, immune system problems, and other skin conditions.

Do not use it if there is an infection or sore in the area to be treated.

Children may be more sensitive to the effects of too much corticosteroid medication. Consult your doctor for more details.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. 

Desowen Lotion may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have the following:

• Worsening your skin condition;
• Redness, warmth, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation of any treated skin;
• Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights;
• High blood sugar--increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor; or

Possible signs of absorbing this medicine through your skin--weight gain, slow wound healing, thinning or discolored skin, increased body hair, muscle weakness, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, mood changes, menstrual changes, and sexual changes.

Common side effects of Desowen Lotion may include:

• Stinging or burning of treated skin;
• Skin irritation, redness, itching, or hardening;
• Dry, scaly, or oily skin;
• Swelling in your hands or feet;
• Acne, stretch marks; or
• Redness or crusting around your hair follicles.

What happens if you miss a dose of Desowen Lotion?

Apply for the Desowen Lotion as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not apply two doses at one time.

What happens if you overdose on Desowen Lotion?

Seek emergency medical attention if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication.

What should you avoid while using desonide topical?

Avoid getting Desowen Lotion in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not use cosmetics or other skin care products on the treated areas.
